W. Marc Modisett

William Marc Modisett, age 69, of Waterford, Michigan passed away unexpectedly at his home on May 16, 2022. Marc was born at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis along with his twin brother Mike to Drs. Jackson W. and Marcella S. Modisett and was raised in Madison, Indiana.
In elementary school, he challenged himself to become a speed reader. He would borrow dozens of books from the public library and finish them quickly ready to go back for more. He was an outstanding swimmer for the Madsion Country Club Swim Team excelling in butterfly. He also excelled in mathematics, attending a workshop at Rose Polytechnic as an eighth grader. He took drum lessons as well.
At Madison Consolidated High School Marc was in the Letterman Club, lettering in wrestling and also taking part in cross country as well as other school clubs and activities. One highlight of his high school years was the Senior Travel Club which consisted of Marc w his brother Mike and a few friends. The STC raised money in a variety of ways to take a trip to Houston, Texas to visit the twins’ sister Pat Modisett.
During summers in high school and other times Marc worked on the family farm. His jobs included helping to care for and train his father Dr. Jack’s harness horses. Marc and his brother Mike would help their father as he traveled to various Indiana county fairs racing the horses. In college Marc took his turn at being a lifeguard and one summer was a telephone lineman.
Marc graduated from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology with a degree in mechanical engineering in 1975. He used that degree primarily in the auto industry. Marc was proud that he has his name on multiple patents for mechanical processes that he developed with other engineers. One thing Marc enjoyed about his job was having the opportunity to travel to several countries throughout the world.
Marc’s daughter Cathy Modisett was born in 1979. Marc made sure he spent a lot of time with his daughter attending many of her activities. Part of that time was spent rehabbing old houses together.
Marc was joined in marriage to Kim Roberts of Wisconsin on May 24, 1999. Later Marc and Kim relocated to Waterford, Michigan in 2004. There Marc lived his life to the fullest through simple pleasures. He particularly enjoyed being at their lake home where he might be listening to Johnny Cash. He especially enjoyed relaxing on the couple’s pontoon boat and visiting with friends, neighbors, and family. Marc and his wife Kim hosted the annual Van Norman Lake Sandbar Euchre Tournament where many pontoons were tied together for a day of fun on the lake. Marc enjoyed attending the various reunions of the MCHS Class of 1971. He loved helping others and was just beginning working on a new youth project at LifePoint Christian Church where he and his wife Kim attended church. Marc and Kim also enjoyed visiting with his Rose-Hulman brothers and their wives. He took great interest in the genealogy, sometimes traveling to various states to find family information. Later, Marc was “Poppy” to his two grandsons Dashel and Ripley, and a second dad to his son-in-law Ryan. They brought him immense joy and he loved the times that they shared together.
